Opel and Vauxhall’s ongoing new model offensive is set to continue, according to plans revealed to just-auto on the eve of the Geneva motor show’s first media preview day.
Geneva is the backdrop for the launch of the new Cascada convertible while also providing the first look at a possible future convertible crossover variant of the just-launched Adam city car. Next up will be an Adam automatic, to be followed by GM Europe’s forthcoming three-cylinder petrol engine, which should also be the first sub-100g/km powertrain for the car.

Around the same time as the new Adam variants begin to be revealed comes a major engineering and styling update for the Insignia. Expect new engines, including the 1.6-litre CDTi EcoTec diesel that was recently announced for the Zafira, as well as the 1.6-litre petrol turbo unit that features in the Cascada. The Insignia will then continue until 2016. Its replacement will use a new GM platform, not PSA architecture.
The Insignia refresh will make its world debut at Frankfurt this September, more than five years after the car was first seen at the London motor show in the summer of 2008.
Another model which was launched at the UK’s former national motor show, the Corsa – it arrived in 2006 – will NOT be facelifted for a second time in late 2013, as many media have incorrectly stated. Instead, the current Corsa will continue as is into 2014. Its replacement, codenamed S4500, is being developed by Opel on GM’s Gamma 2 architecture. Expect it to be revealed at next year’s Paris motor show.
