Ford of Europe Chairman Lewis Booth confirmed the plan at an analysts’ conference held in Geneva alongside the auto show’s press day.


The car will share engineering architecture with the all-new Mazda2, which debuted in Geneva today.


Ford of Europe has primary responsibility for developing the Ford brand’s version of the vehicle, which could be on the market in 2009.


Analysts note that the B-segment in the US is small but has developed with the launch of models such as the Honda Jazz.
