Hyundai’s luxury car brand Genesis unveiled its new battery powered GV60 crossover vehicle this week, its first model to be built on the group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) dedicated to electric vehicles.

Hyundai said the GV60 is equipped with a 77 kilowatt hour (KWh) battery, giving it a range of 451km (280 miles) on a single charge. It will be available with three drive options: rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and four-wheel performance version at prices ranging between KRW60m and KRW70m (US$50,000-US$60,000).

Among the GV60’s notable features are pop-out door handles and cameras in place of door mirrors. The vehicle will go on sale in South Korea later this year with overseas sales to follow in 2022.

This is the Genesis brand’s second EV model following the launch of the G80 in June which is based on a conventional passenger car platform.

Earlier this month Hyundai Motor Group announced the Genesis brand would only launch EVs from 2025, either hydrogen fuel cell or battery powered models, in line with competing global luxury brands which have stepped up their electrification drive.
