The transmission control valve issue in the affected vehicles could potentially lead to the rear wheels locking, increasing the risk of a crash, the NHTSA said.

The affected models include certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon vehicles.

To resolve the issue, dealers will install an updated transmission control module software at no charge.

GM has also initiated a special coverage programme to repair transmissions found to have a defective control valve.

In addition, GM instructed dealers to halt the delivery of the impacted vehicles immediately.
