Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely) has signed a preliminary agreement with Pakistan’s HRL Engineering Group and Capital Smart Motors (CSM) to assemble and sell its Farizon commercial vehicles in the country, according to local reports.
Geely is understood to have agreed to establish a joint venture with HRL, a diversified industrial and engineering group, and local distributor CSM, to bring a broad range of Farizon new energy commercial vehicles to the local market, including hybrid and battery-powered models. They will initially be brought in as built-up imports from China, with local assembly of knocked-down kits set to follow once sales operations are up and running.

The agreement comes after six months of discussions between the two companies, according to reports, with the new partnership focused on making available new energy buses, light commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks to local customers.
Geely already has a presence in Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market, with local company Master Motors, while its Malaysian partner Proton also has a local assembly agreement with Alhaj Automotive Group in Karachi.
