GAC Group has launched its second locally-assembled model in Malaysia, the Emkoo compact SUV, as the Chinese state-owned automaker continued to expand its footprint in South-east Asia.

The Emkoo is assembled from completely knocked down (CKD) kits imported from China at a plant in Segambut, near Kuala Lumpur, owned by WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the local Warisan TC Holdings Bhd (Tan Chong Group). It is assembled alongside the GAC GS3 Emzoom, which went into production in 2024.

Warisan TC Holdings’ CEO, Tan Keng Meng, said in a statement: “The launch of the Emkoo represents another important step in GAC’s growth journey in Malaysia.
