He said: “Today’s announcement signals Jaguar Land Rover’s ambitions to push the boundaries and redefine premium car ownership. The introduction of a world class new aluminium vehicle architecture means we will be more competitive, flexible and efficient delivering exciting new products.”
The first new model on the architecture will be a mid-sized Jaguar sports sedan for launch in 2015. It will be the most efficient, advanced and refined premium sports sedan ever seen in the C/D segment, Jaguar claimed.
This vehicle will also have the first engine to be built at the automaker’s new GBP500m engine factory in Wolverhampton. The plant will build a new family of petrol and diesel engines.
Jaguar has also finally revealed its first sports crossover concept – the C-X17 – which was created as a design study to introduce the new aluminium monocoque architecture. The C-X17 concept illustrates the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using the architecture.
