The new company, called Valeo Lighting Systems India, will be majority-owned by the French supplier.
The JV in Chennai (once Madras) will supply headlamps, rear lamps and fog lamps to automakers in India.
Valeo has operated in the fast growing market since 1997 when it created two JVS to make clutches and clutch facings, also in Chennai, where the group has an engineering centre, too.
Two more joint ventures were established in Pune last year; one for security systems, the other making alternators and starter motors.
