French unions are due to meet this Thursday (7 April) to discuss Renault’s decision to site some engine production in Romania.
The French automaker is to base its H4 engine production at the Pitesti plant near Bucharest and despite insisting it would not impact French employment, the development has raised eyebrows at France’s powerful Confederation Generale du Travail (CGT).

The Renault element of the CGT is due to meet the automaker’s chief operating officer Patrick Pelata tomorrow in Paris, but has also scheduled a further discussion with the French machinists labour body (CGT de la Francaise de Mecanique) later this week.
A statement sent to just-auto by Renault CGT raised concern the manufacturer’s Romania move could impact on French production of its D engine in northern France.
“Renault CGT has learned, once again from the press, that management will assign the manufacture of the new ‘H’ engines to sites in Romania, Spain and India,” said the statement.
“According to current information, these new engines will compete with D Engines, made in the Douvrin factory.”
