Renault will appoint a chief performance officer and a chief competitiveness officer to replace chief operating officer Carlos Tavares, who stepped down last week after telling a news agency he saw no early chance of replacing chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn and would like a top job at a rival.

Ghosn has presented a project aimed at rearranging group organisation to the company’s top 120 managers and board of directors. It will go before union representatives on 9 September.

“The intention is to reinforce Renault’s industrial, commercial and financial performance while continuing to empower the regions,” the automaker said in a statement.

Two roles would be created in addition to the existing finance, human resources and CEO office posts; both reporting to Ghosn.

Chief Competitive Officer

This post would include product and programmes, design, engineering, quality, IS/IT, purchasing, manufacturing and supply chain.

Its main goals would be to reinforce the development of an attractive range of products, to improve product competitiveness, optimise total delivered cost, increase quality and reinforce programme profitability.

Chief Performance Officer

This office would include the group’s regions: Europe, Euromed-Africa, Eurasia, Americas (Renault is not active in North America apart from Mexico) and Asia-Pacific as well as sales and marketing.

Its main goals would be to deliver the company’s revenue, market share and sales profitability targets.
