Sales of new cars in France jumped sharply in October, increasing 9.1% after a gain of 3.2% in September.

Citing local car manufacturers’ association (CCFA), Agence France Press (AFP) said sales last month totalled 188,935, led by PSA Peugeot Citroen with a gain of 8.5% whilst Renault was up 2.6%.


For the 10 months to October, auto sales were up just 0.8%, with the market variable, posting growth of 21% in July and a fall of 2.4% in August, AFP added.


PSA Peugeot Citroen with 57,652 sales held 30.5% of the total in October while Renault’s 46,237 sales gave it 24.5%, the report said.


French automakers overall held 53.5% of the market, down from 55.9% in October 2006, AFP added.
