According to the terms and conditions of this agreement, the GAZ Group  will manufacture the Renault dCi Euro 3 11-litre engine. This engine, with a maximum power rating of 412hp, will be fitted in particular to vehicles manufactured by subsidiaries of the GAZ Group.

The engine will be distributed in Russia as well as in the CIS states.

Renault Trucks (a subsidiary of Volvo Group) will provide training and technical assistance during the initial years of the implementation of this agreement which also provides for the sale of industrial equipment and the possibility to use the tooling required for the manufacture and assembly of the engine.

Start-up of engine production in Yaroslavl is planned for mid-2007. The annual estimated volume is around 20,000 units.

Renault Trucks said that the agreement is considered by the partners as ‘the first stage in a continuous co-operation venture on the Russian market and could result in future industrial and commercial partnerships’.

Earlier this year GAZ acquired the former Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus assembly line from DaimlerChrysler (click here for details). That equipment is in the process of being shipped from Sterling Heights to its plant in Nizhny Novgorod. GAZ will also purchase engines from Chrysler’s Saltillo, Mexico plant.
