AFP reports that Renault is ‘within days’ of reaching an agreement with Iranian authorities to manufacture the X90 model in Iran, citing as a source a Renault spokesman.

The AFP report said that talks with Iran’s Organization for Development and Renovation (IDRO) are in their “final phase” and should be concluded “in the coming days” according to the spokesman.
The X90 model has been devised by Renault for key emerging markets and will have a low sales price of just 5,000 euros. It will also be made in Romania, Russia and Morocco. In Iran it will replace the ageing Paykan (‘Hillman Hunter’) model.
Iran has an established car industry and supplier network and the market has steadily increased over the last three years to 450,000 cars in the fiscal year 2002-2003.
