Renault is to cut standard equipment on base model cars to reduce costs, according
to Automotive News Europe.

to pay for. In some cases, we have over-equipped entry level cars," the
automotive trade newspaper quoted Renault Chairman Louis Schweitzer as saying.

Schweitzer told Automotive News Europe that Renault had misjudged demand for
such high-technology equipment as electronic stability controls and that the
popular Clio would among the models affected by ‘decontenting’.

The economic slowdown is making buyers more price sensitive, Schweitzer told
the newspaper.
