PSA Peugeot Citroen has issued a statement in which it claims “…the closure of the Aulnay site is not currently on the Group’s agenda.” The historic suburban Paris plant builds the C3, Citroen’s best selling model.
The extraordinary announcement by PSA follows the release of a document earlier on 9 June by the Federation of metallurgy of the CGT. The union represents many workers at Aulnay. According to PSA, “…this was a preliminary working document drafted nearly a year ago, elaborating some long-term outlooks on the Group’s European competitiveness. This document does not in any way constitute a decision taken by the Managing Board.”

The statement goes on to add, “PSA Peugeot Citroen is strongly concerned about the competitiveness of its French industrial sites and is actively involved in the public debate. There are regular exchanges on this subject with social partners within the company. During the last Comite’ Central d’Entreprise (Central Works Council) which took place on last May 26th, all these issues were addressed and the CGT did not ask any question.”
PSA ended its statement with a reminder that it produces 85% of its engines in France, while also building almost twice as many vehicles in the country as it sells there.
The company does not mention in its statement that the C3 is also built at Poissy. This facility, like Aulnay-sous-Bois, is in the suburbs of the French capital. Poissy builds not only the C3 but its three-door variant, the DS3, as well as the Peugeot 207. All these cars share the PSA PF1 platform.
