PSA Peugeot Citroën has told the media that it intends to manufacture a new DS model at its Mulhouse plant in eastern France, commencing in 2018.

While the vehicle in question has not been named, PSA has confirmed that it will be for the DS brand. This is the second model for DS which the company has in recent times stated would be built in France, a compact crossover being presently under development and due to be manufactured at Poissy from 2017.

The car for Mulhouse should be the successor to the soon to be renamed Citroën DS4. A facelifted car should appear at the Frankfurt IAA in mid-September, rebadged as the DS 4. The replacement’s styling is likely to have been previewed by the Divine DS concept. This debuted at the Paris motor show in October 2014. This might also be one of the launch models for the arrival of DS in the US – this is expected to take place by 2020.

PSA is spending €400m to modernise Mulhouse. As part of the upgrade, the Peugeot 2008, Citroën C4 and DS4 were last month shifted to “single-flow production”, as the firm terms it.

“The newly freed-up production line will be entirely renovated over the next 15 months to integrate the new EMP2 modular platform dedicated to the Group’s future C and D segment vehicles,” PSA’s media bulletin notes. 

By 2020, DS is to have a six-model range, the division’s management recently stated. It is presumed that this would be made up of the following cars:
