PSA Peugeot Citroen is considering an alliance with Mitsubishi Motors Corp, according to French daily La Tribune. The companies today announced another vehicle-share deal for Europe, giving PSA a new electric car based on the Japanese firm’s i-MiEV model.

PSA’s new chief executive Philippe Varin is said to be “actively thinking” about such an alliance although a company spokesman would not confirm the story.
Varin has previously said he wants the group to become more global through internal and external growth, industrial partnerships and possibly alliances with other carmakers.
The French carmaker and Mitsubishi already cooperate on electric vehicles, small SUVs for Europe and also plan to jointly manufacture cars in Russia. La Tribune described a Peugeot-Mitsubishi alliance as “technically and geographically ideal”.
