France has unveiled plans to provide diesel car drivers with up to a EUR10,000 (US$11,300) grant to convert to “green vehicles.”
The initiative forms part of France’s 2015 environmental road map outlined this week by Energy and Sustainable Development Minister, Segolene Royal and forms part of a backdrop which has seen some hint diesel could be phased out by 2020.

It is unclear how the EUR10,000 one-off payment will be made for differing diesel vehicles, but it appears cars of more than 13 years old, will be eligible.
Reports in France are speculating those ‘clean’ cars could be electric vehicles.
“The bill concerning energy transition in terms of green growth, introduced the principle of an exceptional grant to replace old vehicles with clean vehicles,” said a statement from Royal’s Ministry.
“The most polluting diesel vehicles will be eligible, that is to say, those which are more than 13 years old, for clean vehicles.
“The conversion grant is for individuals [and] its level will depend on the nature of the vehicle being acquired as a replacement.”
