Domestic makers had an especially buoyant month with Renault’s home market sales up 34.5% and PSA Peugeot-Citroen’s increase 21.8%, the CCFA federation told local news agency AFP.

French car sales have been rising year on year for the past six months, buoyed by a government clunkers trade-in scheme and a separate environmental bonus, after the economic downturn sent sales tumbling late last year, AFP noted.

New car registrations hit 210,140 in October.

CCFA spokesman Francois Roudier told the news agency the increase was fuelled by the twin bonus schemes as well as the success of new models including the Renault Scenic, Peugeot 3008 and Citroen C3 Picasso.
