“The new GT-R was developed as a global car from the outset,” said Pierre Loing, Nissan Europe’s general manager of product strategy. “Today, it is in our product planning for Europe.”
A two-door, four-seat GT-R was shown as a near-production-ready concept called the GT-R Proto at the Tokyo motor show earlier this month.
In recent years Nissan has brought low-volume cars to Europe to enhance its brand image. The 350Z sports coupe arrived in 2003. The 350Z roadster was introduced last spring together with the Murano medium SUV.
The automaker will launch the GT-R in Japan 2007, replacing a predecessor that will have been on the market for almost eight years. The GT-R would be priced about 40% above the 350Z, Loing said.
