Peugeot posted a 4.1% gain helped by strong sales of the 308 and 2008 mini-SUV. Renault sales rose 5.8% boosted by its Captur model. The CCFA has improved its French market outlook, predicting a 6% decline for 2013, down from 8% it previously forecast.

Over the past two years, Renault and PSA have seen their combined domestic market share decline as rivals such as Volkswagen and Hyundai have grabbed a growing slice of shrinking demand.

Volkswagen lost ground in October down 3.6% while Fiat also benefited from the market rebound seeing its sales rise 2.5%. Hyundai and Kia posted a combined 5.8% in French sales, with Toyota rising 5.2%. General Motors sales jumped 9.4% due largely to a 31% increase by the Chevrolet brand.

LVC registrations also rose 3.7% during the month.
