“As of Monday, 20 July, the vehicle factory is working again in three shifts,” said Ford Romania president Ian Pearson, also this week, when he and Romanian president Klaus Iohannis visited the factory.

“This proves that the one litre EcoBoost engine, and the EcoSport and Puma models we produce here, are in demand both in Europe and elsewhere in the world.”

Pearson also announced Ford Romania was spending US$30m to install a modern press line.

The new line covers an area of 1,900 sq m and will allow the plant to produce a wider range of components locally, replacing items now brought in from other Ford factories in Europe.

With investments of EUR1.5bn in Craiova to date, Ford Romania has about 6,000 employees, both in vehicle and engine production.
