Following its announcement of more electrified vehicles for Europe on Tuesday in Amsterdam, Ford said over a third of the more than 30 new models it plans to launch in China will be electric vehicles.
China operations chief Anning Chen told Reuters the automaker was committing itself to improving relationships with Chinese joint venture partners and localising its management by hiring and promoting more Chinese nationals and global talent with Chinese expertise, among other initiatives.
The new plans are intended to "enable us to gain the momentum to break through" in the marketplace, Chen told Reuters.
Recent sales slumps were due to a lack of new product the Sino-US trade war and difficult relationships with local partners Changan Automobile and Jiangling Motors, the news agency said.
Mild-, full- and plug-in hybrid powertrains will be offered in 16 electrified passenger car and commercial vehicle models in Europe, Ford announced in Amsterdam.
They include the Kuga plug-in hybrid along with mild hybrid, and full hybrid variants. The Tourneo Custom plug-in is a hybrid eight seat people mover. There also will be Fiesta EcoBoost full- and mild-hybrids. An all electric Transit will go on sale in 2021.
