After multiple problems with the redesigned Explorer SUV and some other models launched relatively recently, Ford now is recalling some 2019 Ranger pickup trucks to check for an electrical glitch.

In affected vehicles, the inline electrical connector terminals for the tail lamps may be misaligned or not properly seated, resulting in intermittent or inoperative tail lamps, stopping brake, turn, rear position and reverse lamps working which can reduce the vehicle's visibility and may not fully alert other drivers that the vehicle is manoeuvering, increasing the risk of a crash.

These latest recalled vehicles were built at Michigan Assembly Plant from 4 June, 2018, to 16 August, 2019.

Dealers will inspect the underbody inline connector and, if a terminal is loose, it will be re-pinned into a replacement connector.

Last September, a Detroit Free Press report suggested Ford was battling quality problems with redesigned 2020 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator large SUVs built at its Chicago Assembly plant. Vehicles, some of which had been recalled from dealer forecourts, reportedly were being shipped to the Flat Rock, Michigan plant for rectification work.

Ford told the 'Freep' the work being done at Flat Rock was not out of the ordinary.

"Making updates to preproduction models based on all new platforms as they roll off the assembly line – is standard industry practice," a spokeswoman said at the time.
