Mobile phone maker Nokia, and automakers Nissan and Ford have jointly developed integrated vehicle communications systems for the Nissan Primera and Ford Focus models sold in Europe.

The new system for the Primera allows hands-free operation using the vehicle’s built-in N-FORM audio/climate/sat-nav control system with its large colour display. It has a baseplate onto which various mobile holders can be mounted, making it with a wide range of mobile phones from different manufacturers.
The phone can be operated using the controls and seven-inch colour display in the Primera.
The Nokia hands free system for the redesigned Focus just launched in Europe has voice activation and Bluetooth connectivity and can also be used with mobile phones from various manufacturers.
The system supports two connection options: Bluetooth connectivity and cable connection in conjunction with a mobile
holder.
Depending on the mobile phone and connection chosen, the user can access the phone’s major communications functions using the car displays and the control buttons in the vehicle.
Many functions can also be voice activated, using various speaker-dependent or speaker-independent commands. An external GSM antenna improves sound quality for hands-free operation.
Ford is offering the system for its new Focus line, the C-Max minivan and will add it to other models in the near future.
