FAW Jiefang Automobile Company Ltd, the commercial vehicle unit of the Chinese state-owned automaker FAW Group, has begun operations at its newly-built heavy truck engine plant in the city of Dalian, in the country’s north-eastern Liaoning province, according to local reports.

FAW Jiefang began construction of the plant in July 2022 with a total investment of CNY620m (US$86m), and with strong support from local government. The facility is equipped with green and intelligent manufacturing systems including the use of solar power, air-source heat pumps and smart factory management systems. It has an annual production capacity of 50,000 engines, with a claimed automation rate of 83%.

The plant began making the company’s 6DV-series truck engine last week, which has a maximum power output of 640 hp and 3,000 Nm of torque, and an expected lifecycle of 2 million km.

Also at the opening ceremony, FAW Jiefang also unveiled its latest engine, the CA6HV3 in-house developed zero-emissions, in-cylinder direct injection hydrogen unit designed for heavy-duty commercial vehicles applications.
