A spokesperson for VCC in Gothenburg has confirmed to just-auto that plans to close the Uddevalla plant are on track for May 2013. The former Pininfarina Sverige AB joint venture factory builds the Volvo C70.

Build of Volvo’s only convertible began at the VCC/Pininfarina assembly operation in Uddevalla in December 2005. A facelifted car was launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2009.

Production of the closely related Ford Focus CC ended at Pininfarina’s own plant in Italy in July 2010.

In March 2011, VCC and Pininfarina announced that they would end the JV in May 2013, at which time all shares would pass to VCC. Volvo Cars then announced in October 2011 that Uddevalla would be closed “in 2013”.

No successor for the slow-selling C70 is expected until around 2015 at the earliest. Such a model would likely be manufactured at either Torslanda (Sweden) or Ghent (Belgium).
