“We are in a good time for production,” the factory’s workers’ committee chief Jose Luis Manias told just-auto. “The Polo model is selling better than any other and beating sales estimates.”
And “there are rumours that sales will be even better next year so employment levels should be maintained.”
Landaben’s director Emilio Saenz Grijalba added the factory’s status is “brilliant” due to robust demand for the Polo.
He added production could exceed this year’s rates in 2011 as demand for the Polo and the other models assembled in the factory rises on the back of a strengtheninig global econonmy.
“So far we have orders for 300,000 cars next year. We are waiting to confirm more numbers but it looks like we could have another record year” in 2011, Saenz told local press this week.
His comments came during an event to celebrate the factory’s winning of VW’s Labour Security Cup, for which all the German automobile manufacturer’s European factories compete every year.
Manias said the award is raising the factory’s profile within the VW network. “It reflects a job well done and our commitment to constant improvement,” he said, adding that the site’s labour accidents have fallen sharply while it has made important gains in reducing stress levels.
