Pretoria-based Bosal Afrika has secured a $US120 million contract to supply General Motors’ Czechoslovakian operation with 1.2 million catalytic convertors over the next six years, writes Dave Cumming.

GM will weld them to exhaust manifolds before shipping them to Opel assembly plants in Germany and Zaragoza, Spain, for fitting to Corsa models.

The deal was facilitated by Delta Motor Corporation in Port Elizabeth, in which GM has a substantial interest, widely tipped to become a controlling shareholding in the relatively near future.

This follows Bosal’s recent signing of a $7 million contract to supply car jacks to GM’s North American operations over the next five years.

The company also exports wiring harnesses, alloy wheels, electronic engine management systems and tooling dies to Europe and elsewhere.
