Russia increased output of road vehicles 2.2% to 1,209,782 in 2000 from 1,183,217 in 1999, according to provisional totals provided to just-auto.com by AO Avtoselkhozmash Holding (ASM), an automotive association in Moscow.

Volumes grew year-on-year for all four types of vehicles: 8.0% for buses to 53,761 from 49,782; 6.8% for trolley buses to 393 from 368; 4.3% for trucks to 186,673 from 179,047; and 1.6% for cars to 968,955 from 954,020.

Production for 2000 was comprised 80.1% by cars, 15.4% by trucks and 4.4% by buses. Trolley buses represented under 0.1%.


Solely in December, auto output fell 18.5% to 88,327 in 2000 from 108,340 in 1999. Three of four sectors posted losses year-on-year: 19.1% for cars to 69,857 from 86,309; 17.4% for trucks to 14,281 from 17,292; and 12.7% for buses to 4,134 from 4,733. Only trolley buses gained – 816.7% to 55 from 6.

In 1999 versus 1998, auto production rose 15.0% to 1,183,217 from 1,028,765. Each sector enjoyed upturns year-on-year: 23.4% for trucks to 179,047 from 145,117; 13.9% for cars to 954,020 from 837,599; and 8.1% for buses to 49,782 from 46,049. (Data for trolley buses were unavailable for 1998.)


Output for 1999 was composed 80.6% of cars, 15.1% of trucks and 4.2% of buses. Trolley buses represented under 0.1%.
