Russian Kamaz trucks and buses will be introduced to India in late 2006 as the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between commercial vehicle manufacturer Tatra Vectra Motors and Kamaz.

Tatra Vectra announced plans to invest INR300-500m in the next two years in truck tooling at the recent auto expo in New Delhi.
Kamaz components will be made at Tatra Vectra’s Hosur plant near Bangalore. Provided homologation and other clearances are received, launch should be at the end of 2006.
Initial Indian-made Kamaz vehicles will have some parts from Russia but ‘localisation’ will be stepped up depending on volume here.
Currently, Tatra Vectra is unable to use all its installed capacity of 12,000 truck units a year and has about 60% spare.
It is a 90:10 joint venture between the UK’s Vectra group and Tatra of the Czech Republic and was known previously as Tatra Trucks India.
