After the acquisition of Daewoo Commercial Vehicles by Tata Motors, the newly formed Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. Ltd. has launched its first and Korea’s first Euro III-compliant model, the Novus, in South Korea.

The Novus is a high performance, lean emission vehicle specially engineered to meet rigid Euro III standards and compete in international markets.
Come next month and the new Korea 2004 environmental regulation will be applied to medium and heavy commercial vehicles in Korea while production of Euro II vehicles will be stopped. The new standard is more in line with the Euro III rules, which are stricter than regulations in Japan.
TDVC has incorporated Bosch common rail fuel injection technology in the Novus, which gives it the emission edge plus superior reliability and better fuel efficiency. Other features include a ‘Jake brake’ system, ABS/ASR and emergency steering system (ESS).
At the launch, TDCV president & CEO, Kwang-Ok Chae said: “NOVUS is an excellent truck that is being put on sale in the Korean market for the first time since Daewoo joined Tata Motors which is the sixth largest commercial vehicle manufacturing firm in the world.”
In a related move, the company has appointed Ravi Kant – head of Tata’s commercial vehicle business, as its chairman and Praveen Kadle a director on the TDCV board. Currently TDCV is Korea’s second largest heavy truck maker with a facility in Gunsan that has 20,000 units a year capacity.
