Reva Electric Car Company, a joint venture between Maini Group of Bangalore and AEV LLC of USA, recently unveiled its fuel cell prototype car at the Technology Day Award Ceremony in New Delhi.
The Reva fuel cell car is made on a very flexible platform making it ‘modular’ and adaptable to hydrogen tanks of different sizes. The car’s Energy Management System (EMS) on-board computer is modified for the prototype to monitor and control energy flow from the fuel cell system under all driving conditions.
Its fuel cell, sourced from Scotland based siGEN, is powered by pure hydrogen stored in high pressure, and works on the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) principle which turns hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air – through a non-combustive electro chemical reaction – into electricity.
