Hyundai India posted negative growth with 7,715 units – a fall of 13.3% – which the company attributed to plant maintenance and a disruption due to expansion activities. Surprisingly, there are no waiting lists for Hyundai India cars.


60,618 cars were sold in May, compared with 55,165 units a year ago. Maruti Udyog posted a rise of 5.72% to 32,663 units while Tata Motors surged 31.2% to 11,487.


Honda Siel Cars India saw a rise of 101.7% to 2,417 units, thanks to a smaller year-ago base and demand for the new City.


General Motors India increased sales 70.7% to 1,518 units due to Optra demand and the start of Tavera MUV [multipurpose vehicle] shipments.


Hindustan Motors sales drooped 5.6% to 1,112 units. Ford Motor India sold 43.6% more vehicles at 1,627 units in May thanks to the Ikon sub-compact and Endeavour SUV.


Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s sales slipped 7.9% to 815 units and Skoda Auto India sold 601 units.


The biggest drop was by Fiat India – 51.7% to 581 units.


DaimlerChrysler sold 82 units, compared to 119 last year.
