Ford of Europe issued a release at the 2012 Geneva motor show stating that the plug-in Focus would be launched “in 2013” but issued very few other specifics at that time.

The car has been built at Michigan Assembly (Wayne) since late 2011. It went on sale in New York and California in December 2011, before being rolled out to a limited number of cities in other US states from April 2012, priced at US$39,995.

Ford is currently offering the 2013 Focus Electric at up to $10,750 off for three-year leases, according to the company’s website. The car’s base price has also been cut by $2,000 for cash sales, a report carried by The Detroit News on 25 January points out.

Earlier this week, Nissan GB slashed the price of the Leaf by GBP2,500. This followed similar cuts in other European countries as well as Japan and the US. Taking a government incentive into account, the car’s price is now £23,490. There is no news yet on UK market pricing for the Focus Electric.
