There was a slight sales increase in vehicle sales in Colombia last month.

According to statistics firm Econometria, 15850 vehicles were sold in July, just 18 units more than in June but 36% more than in July 2005. Sales have grown at a rate of 36.0% in the last 12 months.

In marketing news, Renault launched the Logan Driver’s School, an academy for sports-minded drivers wanting to learn how it’s done on a race track.

After months of concern over Venezuelan president hinting the country would leave the Andean Nations Community, an official press release this week confirmed it would remain part of the Andean Automotive Agreement until 2009. This deal is between Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia.

Parallel to this, the Colombian government said the automotive part of the Mexico-Colombia free trade agreement would kick in by 2010, after a gradual reduction in tariffs over the next few years.

A smilar deal already operates between Mexico and Brazil.

Colombia currently has an import tariff barrier of 8% and a volume of 4,000 vehicles a year from Mexico. Next year, the tariff reduces to 6% and will continue to fall in steps.
