Volkswagen do Brasil will launch on 1 May a $R16 million ($US 7 million) E-commerce project to sell all its vehicles on the internet.

On Volkswagen#;s new website (www.volkswagen.com.br) the buyer will configure the car and choose a dealer to deliver it. The website will also allow buyers to find used cars in dealer stocks.
The internet sales project coincides with the launch of the new Brazilian-made Polo at the end of April.
Until now VW has sold only its imported Passat and (new) Beetle models on the internet at a monthly rate of about 50 Passats and 10 Beetles.
General Motors, Fiat, Ford and Renault already use the internet to sell Brazilian-made compact cars in large volume.
According to Boston Consulting Group, internet sales in Brazil rose 170 percent last year to $US906 million from $US335 million in 2000. Automotive market sales represented 55 percent of the total.
