“We will produce the CrossFox next year and expect to start sales in Brazil in July”, said VW do Brasil president Paul Fleming.

The CrossFox, shown to local media as a “concept” in October, is designed to look like a muscular Fox with suspension height increased 46mm, bulky bumpers with fog lights, a front bull bar, side bars and roof bars. The tyres are all-road specification and the spare wheel is located on the rear door.

The production CrossFox will have an eight valve, 1.6-litre flexible fuel engine that can run on petrol, alcohol or a mixture of the two.

VW Brazil will also produce petrol and diesel versions for export but, despite its mini-SUV looks, the new model will be front-drive only. It will be produced in the São José dos Pinhais plant, in Paraná state.

The CrossFox will be exported to the same markets as the Fox – Latin America and Europe.

Volkswagen do Brasil is also considering production of the Fox Pepper, another “concept” revealed in the October press presentation. The Pepper is a sporty ‘GTi’ version.
