Spain’s
VW-owned Seat expects to sell 5,000 vehicles in Brazil this year, a 43 percent
increase on the 3,500 sold in 2000, writes Rogério Louro Alves.

The company is restructuring its dealer network and plans to launch the Toledo
towards the end of the year.

The company is plotting a steady rise in future years with the aim of selling
15,000 vehicles annually in Brazil by 2004.

Seat is also evaluating local production at a Volkswagen plant.

All Seat models are currently imported from Argentina or Spain and the Spanish-built
Ibiza range includes an exclusive Brazilian model with a locally-made Volkswagen
71hp, one-litre 16-valve engine.
