PSA will give compulsory vacation to the 1,370 workers affected, starting on 19 November.
PSA has about 8,000 vehicles in factory stock, and has negotiated a pay cut with its workers’ union to avoid layoffs.
Porto Real was opened in 2001 and now produces the Citroën Picasso minivan and the compact Peugeot 206 and Citroën C3 hatchbacks – C3 production started this year.
Despite the tough times, PSA Group is evaluating building the Peugeot 206 Break compact station wagon in Porto Real within the next year. The model is currently produced exclusively at PSA’s UK plant near Coventry.
