During the presentation of a new 1.4-litre 206 hatchback model built in PSA’s Brazilian Porto Real plant, the French group announced that it would this year start local production of the 206 SW.
The company will invest $US30 million to build the new model. Production will start in August for Brazilian sales to begin in November.
“We expect to produce about 15,000 units of the 206 SW model in the first year”, plant director Gilbert Porral told just-auto.
The Brazilian-built 206 SW will have 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines and will initially be exported to other Latin American countries though PSA is also looking for markets outside the American continent.
The Porto Real plant opened in February 2001 and makes the Citroën C3 and Picasso models as well as the 206.
