Brazilian vehicle production increased 16.2 percent in January 2002 compared with December 2001 according to the national car maker’s association Anfavea, writes Rogerio Louro Alves.
Brazilian car makers produced 126,594 vehicles in January compared with 108,985 in December. Year on year, production was up 3.5 percent over January 2001#;s 122,286 vehicles.
However, sales of locally-made and imported vehicles actually slumped 12.9 percent in January 2002 to 110,174 units compared with December.
Year on year sales were off 9.8 percent.
Exports of 18,332 vehicles were also off 18.5 percent in Janaury compared with December but were up a paltry 0.4 percent year on year.
