General Motors do Brasil will introduce its second generation of the Corsa based compact pick-up in October, writes Rogério Louro. While the first generation model, introduced in 1997, was simply called the Corsa Pick-up, the new vehicle will have a proper name: Chevrolet Montana; the name is shared with an unrelated Pontiac minivan sold mainly in North America.

The new pick-up is based on the latest generation European-designed Opel Corsa hatchback model and was developed in the General Motors do Brasil Design Centre.
The Montana has a 1.8-litre eight-valve flexfuel system engine that runs on petrol, alcohol or a blend of the two. Power output varies between 105hp and 109hp depending on the fuel used. The engine was developed by GM do Brasil in conjunction with Delphi. The Montana will not be sold with petrol-only engines.
Montana production started this week in GM’s São José dos Campos plant, in São Paulo state, which also produces the hatchback and unique Brazilian-made sedan versions of the Corsa. The Corsa range in South America has frontal styling inspired by the Astra, different from the European versions.
