The C3 is the second Citroën to be built in Brazil after the Picasso minivan built there since 2001.
The C3 is produced in the PSA Group’s factory in Porto Real city, Rio de Janeiro state, a plant opened in February 2001 to make the Picasso and the Peugeot 206 subcompact hatchback.
PSA spent about $US38 million to built the C3 in Brazil and it comes with either a locally-made 1.6-litre 16-valve engine or a French 1.4-litre unit.
Citroën Brazil expects to sell about 1,000 C3s by the end of the year and also plans exports to other South American countries and Mexico.

By GlobalDataBoosted by the C3, Citroën expects to sell about 25,000 vehicles in Brazil in 2003, after sales of 18,800 vehicles last year, an increase of 21.3% compared with 15,500 shifted in 2001.
