EXCLUSIVE: BRAZIL: Automotive parts sales increase 7% in 2000
Brazil's automotive parts makers syndicate (Sindipeças) has announced that vehicle components sales grew by 7.1 percent in 2000, writes Rogério Louro Alves. The manufacturers sold parts worth $US12 billion last year compared with $US11.2 billion in 1999. Sales to vehicle makers accounted for 56 percent of production.
Brazil’s
automotive parts makers syndicate (Sindipeças) has announced that vehicle
components sales grew by 7.1 percent in 2000, writes Rogério Louro Alves.
The manufacturers sold parts worth $US12 billion last year compared with $US11.2
billion in 1999. Sales to vehicle makers accounted for 56 percent of production.
Manufacturers exported parts worth $US 3.8 billion but this was offset by parts
imports costing $US 4.1 billion.
Sindipeças expects a further increase of 10 percent this year on the
assumption that Brazilian vehicle output will increase 16.7 percent to 1.95
million units.
