DaimlerChysler and Ford are giving assembly line workers two weeks’ compulsory

The companies are trying to reduce new vehicle inventories due to falling sales.

Ford has ordered 3,000 workers at its plant in São Bernardo do Campo,
São Paulo state, off on holiday. The plant employs 4,900 in total and
produces the Fiesta and Ka.
Renault has sent home 1,600 of the 3,100 workers at its São José
dos Pinhais plant, in Paraná state. The plant builds the Scénic
minivan and the Clio hatchback and sedan.
DaimlerChysler has halted A-class assembly for two weeks at its Juiz de Fora
plant, Minas Gerais state. All 650 workers affected are now on compulsory holiday.
However, 950 administration staff and C-class assemblers are still at work.
The Brazilian C-class is built only for export to the United States and Canada.
