Brazilian car makers produced 169,796 vehicles in April, up 9.3% on the 155,373 units built in March, according to the industry association Anfavea.
April vehicle production also showed a slight rise of 0.6% compared with April 2001 when 168,774 units were built, writes Rogerio Louro.

Brazilian sales also grew in April. Sales both of locally-made and imported vehicles rose 1.7% to 135,419 units from 133,103 in March.
Compared with April 2001, sales last month decreased 12.5%.
Exports were, however, up 22.1 % to 36,717 vehicles compared with the 30,064 units shipped in March.
April 2002 exports also rose 3.1% compared with the 35,600 exports in April 2001.
