The Argentine automotive market recorded its best monthly result for 2002 in March as local car makers built 11,155 vehicles, up 42.7 percent on the 7,818 units made in February, writes Rogério Louro Alves.

Sales increased 61.4 percent to 13,693 vehicles compared with 8,485 in February.

Argentine exports also rose last month to 9,976 units, an increase of 16.8 percent over the 8,543 vehicles shipped in February.

However, the first quarter of 2002 was down compared with last year with 23,389 vehicles built, down 55.4 percent on the 52,463 vehicles made in the first three months of 2001.

Sales fell 50.5 percent to 25,824 units compared with the 52,200 in Q1, 2001.
