The General Motors/Suzuki Rosario plant in Argentina has started building the Suzuki Grand Vitara/Chevrolet Tracker SUV with a new 110bhp Peugeot HDI turbodiesel two litre engine in place of the original 87bhp Mazda unit.

The Argentine SUV is sold both locally and in Brazil. In Argentina it’s offered only as the Chevrolet Grand Vitara but, in Brazil, the Grand Vitara name is used by Suzuki and the Chevrolet version, as in the USA and Canada, is called Tracker.

Suzuki bought two percent of General Motors of Argentina in 1999 and the Rosario plant has been producing the SUVs since the end of 1999.

The plant also makes the old-generation Opel Corsa subcompact that is sold in South America as a Chevrolet.
