The Argentinean National Automakers’ Federation (Adefa) said that 15,721 vehicles were built last month, an increase of 3.2% on the 15,238 units made in August. But compared with the 16,638 vehicles produced in the same month of 2001, September vehicle production in Argentina fell 5.5%, writes Rogério Louro.


Sales followed production. In September Argentine car makers sold 5,856 units, a rise of 14.3% compared with the 5,123 vehicles sold in August. But September 2002 sales decreased 57.7% compared with the 13,780 vehicles sold in Argentina market in September 2001.


Last month, Argentine car makers exported 12,810 vehicles, up 10.6% on the 11,578 units shipped in August.


Compared with September 2001, when Argentina exported 8,905 vehicles, last month’s results were up 43.9%.
